A BILL to amend and reenact section seventeen-c, article fourteen, chapter seven of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, relating to increasing the annual salary increment for deputy sheriffs to fifteen dollars per year of service; and eliminating the cap on increments after sixteen or more years of service.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That section seventeen-c, article fourteen, chapter seven of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 14. CIVIL SERVICE FOR DEPUTY SHERIFFS.

§ 7 - 14 - 17c. Salary increment.

Beginning on and after the effective date of this section, every deputy sheriff with one year or more of service shall receive an annual salary increase in the sum of five fifteen dollars per month for each year of service. up to a maximum of sixteen years of service Any incremental salary increase in effect prior to the effective date of this section that is more favorable to the deputy sheriffs entitled to such increase shall remain in full force and effect to the exclusion of the provisions of this section.




NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to increase the annual salary increment awarded to deputy sheriffs to $15 per year of service from its current level of $5 per year and to eliminate the cap on increments after a deputy has accrued 16 years of service.
